opinionatedlez:

Here are some awesome and empowering quotes from several very strong female celebrities.

historicalheroines:

I’ve created these flyers for a school activist project where I bring more attention to the women in history that have been forgotten or ignored. This blog will be an extension of those flyers where I post longer biographies of these women and other bad-ass women like them. Too often women’s achievements have been pushed aside, either by others in their lives, or else by the historians who choose to ignore them. This tumblr is dedicated to celebrating them and bringing their achievements to light!

Wow, eff you, Otto Hahn.

  • 12-year-old girl: I don't want kids when I grow up.
  • Society: You'll change your mind when you get older. You're only 12. You're too young to know what you want.
  • 16-year-old girl: I'm pregnant.
  • Society: How could you be so stupid? Do you know anything about safe sex? You should be ashamed.
  • 20-year-old woman: I'm a single mother with an infant son.
  • Society: You should've gone to college first. You need a stable career before you can support a child.
  • 33-year-old woman: I'm married and my spouse and I both have stable careers. I have two young daughters now.
  • Society: You're not staying home? Who's going to take care of them? You're just going to put them in day care while you work? That's selfish of you. You can't expect to raise decent kids with a full-time job.
  • 45-year-old woman: I just had my first child.
  • Society: Why would you have a child when you're that old? Do you realize the health risks of being pregnant at your age? When your kid is a teenager you'll be a senior citizen. That's inconsiderate of you.
  • 60-year-old woman: I haven't had any children.
  • Society: Your life must be so unfulfilling. Is there something wrong with you? Why didn't you want kids? How strange.

a documentary shot by a high schooler in 1996 titled “dirty girls” about a group of 8th grade girls who are outcasts at their school

so much of this got me indescribably angry and so much of it put me in a state of awe.

these girls were eighth graders and they’re bring treated like this when they were educating themselves and taking a stand for what they thought was right. and their peers, some of which i suspect were high schoolers cause they did not look anywhere near 13/14, have the audacity to try and tell them how to speak for themselves on these issues.

that girl with her catchy little phrase “dime store feminism.” you don’t have a right to dicate how other women practice feminism. all the other ones who were talking about how dark and scary they were, well maybe there’s a reason behind it, why don’t you try and talk to them instead of acting all superior?

i would love it if someone made a follow up piece, now that it’s been almost 20 years later.

When feminists advocate sexual promiscuity, they degrade women.

libertarian-dharma-initiative:

When you tell a woman that she should dress as inappropriately as she’d like, she should be proud of how much sex she’s had, and for her to broadcast that, you degrade her value to what she’s worth in bed, and not as a person.

as usual, you idiots have it all wrong. one, clothes do not indicate anyone’s value. the clothes you wear are unable to display your sense of self-worth and are not a way for anyone to judge your value.

second, the idea that we should be ashamed of participating in sex comes from the shaming ideas of virginity that largely come from religion. you say that a women broadcasting how much sex she has degrades her, but what about the centuries and centuries religion and men dictating that only a virginal woman is worthy of respect and decency? doesn’t virginity come down to how much a woman is worth in bed? right, because if someone isn’t a virgin, then they’re a filthy whore who doesn’t deserve happiness or respect.

feminism doesn’t concern itself with dictating a quantitative amount of sex every woman is allowed to have before getting married. and feminism doesn’t advocate sexual promiscuity. it says one individual has no right to judge a woman on her sexual practices. and it says that every woman has the right to as much sex as she wants.
