I jumped into this fandom about 3 months ago and when I first saw the term, I thought it was just a nickname for him that the fandom came up with to describe him when he’s confused or a bit clueless so I called him that out of affection.

I had absolutely NO clue that “potato” is actually a derogatory slur for a person affected with down syndrome and that calling him that basically states you’re rating his intelligence as equivalent to having a mental disability among other things. As of right now, I will stop calling him that IMMEDIATELY. 

I am sorry that I let that kind of ignorance cross my dash REPEATEDLY. And I am sorry I was apart of it- even unknowingly- but I know better now. It won’t happen again and that is a promise.

It stems from the “I can count to potato” meme, which is alllllll kinds of offensive.
