a day just for us: qmi quickfic 

it’s cool and crisp outside. the trees are caught between summer vert and autumn sunset, even with the piles of leaves spread everywhere from the wind. it’s sunny, but there’s a breeze, playfully pulling at bangs and nipping at ears.

kyuhyun is walking home from the bus stop, kicking up leaves with his battered sneakers, clutching a folder of sheet music and a small ipod, biting his lips as he listens to sung sikyung croon out a tune. he’s trying to figure out a good way to end his midterm composition (which he’s finished early, thank god). he can’t decide between the wholesome c-major chords or an unexpected but daintily pretty a-minor arpeggio. 

he realizes he can hear something outside of the music, and tugs at an earbud, wincing at the way it pulls at the sensitive inside of his ear. that’s forgotten in an instant as an arm is slung over his shoulder and he’s tugged closer to the beanpole that’s appeared. 

zhou mi is already chattering about his own composition, which is, as usual, a lighthearted, quick thing about fresh new love in winter. kyuhyun is content to just listen to him and snuggle deeper into his coat, while hastily readjusting the bulging folder about to fall on the sidewalk. the breeze has picked up and it plucks greedily at the pages. 

zhou mi laughs at his struggles. “here, let me take that.” he easily evades kyuhyun’s refusals and scoops up the folder. 

“mi, i can carry it myself,” kyuhyun protests. “you don’t have to.” 

mi smiles at him, soft and warm. “but i want to. i like helping you.” 

kyuhyun finds he can’t quite say anything back to that face, just coughs awkwardly, and pushes into mi’s side to hide his blush. zhou mi’s smile breaks out into a full-blown grin and his arm slides around his boyfriend’s waist as they keep walking home.
