HALE

Old Saxon; Haelaeh - hero. Later connotations: strong, courageous, healthy, robust, etc.
As we all know, Jeff Davis gives a lot of thought to the details. The name of one of his main characters certainly does say something about what he is supposed to be.________
EXHIBIT NO. 2: CONTROL
When Derek still was a beta, he didn’t lose control, ever. Even when he was dying he could control his turning enough to only have his eyes flash although he was in agony.
As Alpha he certainly was a bit smug about it, but seeing as not much [Beacon Hills] time passed between the finale of season 1 and the first episode of season 2, he did not have to do much to control the much stronger Alpha power.
He gave in to his instincts to make a pack, yes. But despite his instincts which could have made him change people without their consent, or could have made him make Scott submit in a way more violent way, he gave them a choice.
For me, Derek having control over his Alpha instincts is definitely proof that he was born to be an Alpha at some point in time._______

She was right. And I have some advice that you have to listen to very closely right now. What Peter managed to do doesn’t come without a price. He’ll be physically weak, so he’ll rely on his strength of his intelligence, his cunning. He’s gonna come at you, Derek. He’ll try to twist his way inside your head, praying on your insecurities. He’ll tell you he’s the only way to stop Gerard. Do not trust him.
I don’t trust anyone.
I know. If you did, you might be the Alpha you like to think you are.
What I get from this is, that
a) Dr. Deaton had a reason to promise Derek's mother he would help him
Why would his mother make him promise that, if there wouldn’t have been a reason for her to belief that at some point Derek would be on his own.
She couldn’t have really known he would have been on his own because she died in a fire, but she could have known that he would be on his own, because he was supposed to be on his own.
On his own meaning, being the one, an Alpha.
b) Laura made him aware of an advisor being out there
Despite the fact that Laura and Derek probably were very close and even closer after the fire, them being the only one they had and all, Laura made sure Derek would know that there was a person he could turn to.
Who needs advisors, now really? People who have power. People who need someone they can turn to if they can’t come up with what to do anymore.
